Work explores the origins of black Methodism

J. Gordon Melton, director of the Institute for the Study of American Religion in Santa Barbara, will unveil his latest book, "A Will to Choose: The Origins of Black Methodism," at 7 p.m. Thurs., March 1 at the United Methodist Church of Thousand Oaks, 1000 E. Janss Road.
Melton has written more than 25 books, including "Encyclopedia of American Religions" and "American Religion: An Illustrated History."
