Sandoval performance opens 13th Ventura Music Festival
      The Ventura Music Festival will open its 13th season with a Latin jazz performance by Arturo Sandoval at 8 p.m. Sat., Feb. 17 at the Ventura High School auditorium, 2 N. Catalina St., Ventura. The concert is sponsored by the Meister Family Foundation.

Concordia Choir to perform
      The Concordia College Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thurs., March 1 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The choir is under the direction of Rene Clauson. General admission is $15, students $10. Group rates are available.

Saving a parade
      HAPPY OCCASION- Judy Bird and Joel Sanders, left, shareholders of Aviara Real Estate, give Jean Duffy, Conejo Valley Days general chair, and Diana Javurek, Conejo Valley Days offsite chair, a check for $15,000 to help underwrite the 51st annual Conejo Valley Days Parade. Realtors from Aviara donated funds for the parade, scheduled for Sat., May 5, and Aviara is the parade's official sponsor.

Ed Lewis to sign books at Borders
      Ed Lewis, creator and author of the "Celebrity Almanac," will sign copies of his book at 7 p.m. Wed., Feb. 28 at the Borders bookstore, 125 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd. in T.O. Lewis, the vice president of development for the Alliance for the Arts in T.O., has been working on the almanac for about 10 years.

County Government Center exhibits work of local Latino artists
      The Ventura County Arts Council Visual Arts Committee is presenting "Del Corazón: Views from the Heart- Ventura County Latino Artists" in the lobby of the Hall of Administration, Ventura County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura. The exhibit, curated by Carmen Ramirez, will run through March 14. Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
