Gives condolences but sees 'Vietnam all over again'
      Regarding the tragic death of yet another American soldier in Iraq, my condolences go out to the Thousand Oaks family of Lance Cpl. Anthony C. Melia, who was tragically killed in Iraq.

A salute offered to the Melia family
      I was overcome with emotion a few moments ago as I paid my respects to a hero. I watched and bowed my head as the procession carrying Lance Cpl. Anthony Melia to his final resting place passed. As he and his family passed by, the feeling that enveloped me was not sadness, though tears rolled down my face.

TOHS praised for its message
      I never thought I'd find myself sitting patiently at an intersection with tears welling in my eyes. I never gave much rapt attention and consideration to a high school marquee. However, there I was at the intersection of Las Flores and Moorpark Road, gazing at the marquee with my heart in my throat.

Those who deny global warming are in the hip pocket of big business
      Those who choose to deny global warming need to dig a little deeper than simply parroting the party line. As Deep Throat said regarding the mysteries of Watergate, "Follow the money." All these brilliant thinkers need to remember is that all the "experts" who deny global warming are being well paid, directly or indirectly, by big petroleum interests.

Can we please do something for our preteens and teenagers?
      This isn't something new, but it's an ongoing issue that radiates from Calabasas to Newbury Park. The issue is that there's nothing for preteens and teenagers to do in these cities. If a youth is in organized sports, loves to shop on a daily basis or counts on the various teen centers around town, then it's wonderful. They're kept busy, and this isn't an issue for them.
