Get a flagpole named after you for a worthy cause

The Community Conscience "Under One Roof" Human Services Center in T.O. is getting a flagpole. Installation arrangements are currently underway.

Community Conscience is a nonprofit organization that has been in operation for the past 26 years at 80 E. Hillcrest Drive. The building houses 11 nonprofit social and human service organizations operating as a onestop social service center for all individuals and families in need. Thousands of displaced, distressed and homeless individuals use the central location, thus eliminating the need to drive to many separate locations throughout Ventura County.

At this year's Mardi Gras Ball, the annual Community Conscience fundraiser, one of the live auction items will be the opportunity to name the new flagpole. The winning bidder may select the wording for the plaque to be placed by the flagpole. Call the Community Conscience office at (805) 494-3543 for information and tickets.

Community Conscience president June Glasmeier wanted to erect a flagpole in front of the building partly because "my son is in the Navy and spent one year in Iraq, and I am a very patriotic citizen." She expressed thanks to Dan Goodrow of Agoura Hills for his flagpole donation and to the anonymous donor of $400 to refinish the flagpole so that it looks like new.
