Marmonte League girls' basketball race entering final phase
Newbury Park remains undefeated in league play, but Moorpark is right on the Panthers' tail

      It might not be a date that jumps off the calendar, but Feb. 4, 2005, is an important landmark in the recent history of Marmonte League girls' basketball. On that day nearly two years ago, Newbury Park High went on the road and was defeated by Westlake 57-49. Since then, the Panthers have been perfect in league play, reeling off 25 consecutive victories.

AYSO squad wins all-star tournament
      TITLE TOWN- The Newbury Park boys U-12A all-star soccer team was crowned champions of the AYSO Area 10E tournament. The team will represent eastern Ventura County and Malibu in the sectional AYSO all-star tournament in Bakersfield on March 3-4. The Panthers swept through pool play undefeated, outscoring their opponents 24-2.

OCHS boys' soccer team has gone through an up-and-down year

      Perhaps the expectations were a little too high. Then again, maybe they weren't. Despite fielding a roster that featured more freshmen (six) than seniors (four), the Oaks Christian boys' soccer team was ranked in the top 10 of the CIF-Southern Section Division V coaches' poll to begin the season.

Jason Moore sets his sights on state tourney

      This season the Thousand Oaks High wrestling team ranks eighth in the CIFSouthern Section Division II coaches' poll. One reason for the Lancers' success is senior Jason Moore. Moore has been dominating for TOHS this year with a record of 233 while wrestling in the 125pound weight division.

Club team skates to a title
In-line hockey players come up big at national championships
      Team Warrior 97's captured the in-line hockey 2007 Winter Nationals Championship for the U-10 Mite Gold Division at the highly regarded NARCH Winter Nationals Tournament, which took place Jan. 11-15 in Phoenix, Ariz. Team Warrior went undefeated in roundrobin play, displaying a high-powered offense while winning its first three games by outscoring the opposition 28-4.

Two Thousand Oaks water polo players honored
      The Southern California high school water polo awards banquet was held on Sun., Jan. 14, at the Knott's Berry Farm Resort Hotel in Buena Park. Several local players, in addition to being named to the All-CIF Division IV first team, were selected to the AllSouthern California team and to the CaliforniaHawaii AllAmerican squad.

Oaks Christian football squad earns Yellow Pages cover
      The Oaks Christian football team is featured on the cover of the new AT&T Yellow Pages. In late December, OCHS won the Division III state championship, defeating Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa 27-20 in overtime.

Volleyball refs still needed
      The Channel Coast Volleyball Officials Association continues to search for referees for the upcoming spring season, which begins in late February. The association works games in Ventura and westernmost Los Angeles counties. New volleyball officials including college students are welcome.

Critchlow going to Yale
      Kevin Critchlow, a senior at Westlake High, will attend Yale in the fall and will compete for the university's men's swim team. Critchlow's specialty is the butterfly. Throughout the years he's been a valuable contributor to both the Conejo Simi Aquatics and WHS swim teams.
