Author offers series of Lenten talks

Dallas Willard, award-winning Christian author and lecturer, will launch a series of Lenten messages at the 9 and 10:45 a.m. services Sun., Jan. 28 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 588 Camino Manzanas in Thousand Oaks. The sermon title is "Who do you think you are? Anyway!"

That evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Willard will speak on "Worldview and the Spiritual Life: Fantasy and Reality."

He will present a seminar titled "Is there a body of uniquely Christian knowledge? The problem of knowledge in the contemporary world" from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Mon., Jan. 29.

Willard is a professor in the school of philosophy at USC. He earned a PhD from the University of Wisconsin in philosophy, with a minor in the history of science.

Willard's seminars will be based on his book "The Divine Conspiracy," selected as Christianity Today's "Book of the Year" for 1999. His other books are "The Spirit of the Disciplines," "Renovation of the Heart," "The Great Omission" and "Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God."
