Local boy races with Supercross crowd
      Tyler Weyman, 7, of Newbury Park was selected to compete Jan. 6 in the Anaheim 1 ride in the KTM Junior Supercross race for young bicycle motocross racers. Anaheim 1 is the first and one of the biggest events of the Supercross series. Tyler 's father i sTerry Weyman, a Thousand Oaks chiropractor and a former bicycle motocross racer.

Pro cycling teams will compete in Amgen Tour
      Three top professional road cycling teams will compete in the 2007 Amgen Tour of California Feb. 18 through 25, according to Shawn Hunter, president of AEG Sports, promoter and operator of the 650mile, eight-stage cycling race modeled after the Tour de France.

WAGS tryouts a hit for young ballplayers
Players get through early jitters during Saturday's workouts
      Although most players hadn't even picked up a bat or ball in six months, Westlake Agoura Girls Softball (WAGS) kicked off the 2007 season Saturday morning with its annual tryouts. Hundreds of girls, ages 8 to 15, worked out at Agoura High to see what league best fit their skills. The tryouts featured many different stations, including ones for hitting, fielding and pitching.

Tennis stars battle bitter conditions at Sherwood Cup
It's UCLA vs. USC in the singles final
      The weather may have been bitter cold, but the action on the tennis court was red hot Monday afternoon during the finals of the Sherwood Cup 2007 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks. In the men's singles final, it was a matchup of crosstown rivals as UCLA sophomore Haythem Abid defeated USC senior Dejan Cvetkovic in three sets 7-5, 2-6 and 6-3.

Redell: Darrell Scott shouldn't apply to OCHS
      Oaks Christian head football coach Bill Redell has a message for Moorpark High junior running back Darrell Scott: Stay with the Musketeers. Scott, the state's secondleading rusher last season with 3,194 yards, has informed Moorpark athletic director Rob Dearborn that he's planning to transfer, perhaps as early as next week.

Volleyball refs sought
      The Channel Coast Volleyball Officials Association will have its first meeting for those wishing to officiate high school games during the upcoming spring season, which begins in late February. The association referees games in Ventura and westernmost Los Angeles counties. New volleyball officials including college students are welcome.

      The Marmonte League boys' basketball season has reached its midway point, so it's about time to separate the contenders from the pretenders in the race for a league championship. Prior to Wednesday night's games, Simi Valley had a twogame lead over Westlake, Thousand Oaks and Calabasas.
