A friendly Conejo Valley blue jay

FEATHERED FRIEND-- A blue jay takes a peanut directly from the hand of Leah Pickman of Westlake Village. He'd grown accustomed to seeing her almost every morning when she fed the birds and squirrels in her backyard. Eventually she held a peanut in her open hand, and he knew exactly what to do. He's a little selfish, though, and scolds his mate if she gets too close during the feedings. The photograph, by the way, was taken by Pickman's husband, Phillip, on Christmas morning.
