Orientation to be held for adoptive parents Children’s Bureau will offer a parent orientation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., Jan. 23 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. More than 70,000 children have been removed from their parents’ homes due to abuse and neglect, and 119,000 children are waiting for adoptive homes in the U.S., according to a bureau spokesperson. Qualifying families will receive training, certification, funds and social worker support to aid in the care of their adoptive children. Training is provided by Children’s Bureau, a licensed foster family and adoption agency. Founded in 1904, Children’s Bureau provides professional treatment and prevention services to more than 9,000 abused and neglected children and their families each year throughout Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles and Orange counties.
