Conejo Players hold auditions for ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live’

Conejo Players Theatre will hold auditions for “Schoolhouse Rock Live” from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Mon. through Wed., Jan. 1 to 3 at the theater, 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

Performances will be March 3, 4, 7, 9, 10 and 11.

To audition, prepare an uptempo song, showing vocal range and personality. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key; an accompanist will be provided. The audition will include cold readings and a dance routine. No appointment is necessary. There is no pay.

Roles will be triple cast, nine males and nine females. Tom, the idealistic young teacher, should be amiable and charming. Dina is Tom’s mature side, a strong singer

able to sing harmony. Dori should be a strong singer able to lead the ensemble. Shulie is the ingénue. George is the romantic, caring and in-control part of Tom. Joe is the cool side of Tom.

The show is an energetic revue written around Tom, a new school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching. As he watches TV to relax, various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win the students over with imagination and music.

The show includes classic Schoolhouse Rock songs, such as “Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction.”
