Caller ID system expected to reduce false bomb threats As a result of a bomb threat in September, a caller ID system will be implemented throughout Conejo Valley Unified School District, according to Superintendent Mario Contini. "We've received a number of prank calls, including a bomb threat at Newbury Park High School," Contini said. "It's been highly disruptive." The system will force anyone who has a blocked phone number to release it to get through. A message will prompt blocked callers to punch in "82" to reveal their telephone numbers. "We think the safety of our students is important," Contini said. "Having the ability to contact these people if they call, it's worth it. Contini said the district is in the process of purchasing the system, which will cost about $6,000. "Quite frankly, we probably spent that much that day," Contini said of the bomb threat and all the services that were required to ensure the safety of students and teachers during the scare. Contini said the system should be set up sometime in January. --Joanne Groff |
