Equestrians to compete in several Foxfield Derby events

The 35th annual Foxfield Medal Finals is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 7 at Foxfield, 1250 E. Potrero Road, Westlake Village. This is one of the West Coast's foremost equestrian jumping events with entrants from all over the western states.

The 27th annual Foxfield Jumping Derby will follow on Sun., Oct. 8 at the same location. Sunday will feature the $1,500 Calabasas Saddlery Junior and Amateur Jumping Derby at 9 a.m. and the $4,999 Foxfield Jumping Derby at 1:30 p.m., sponsored by David Murdock and Sherwood Development Company.

The jumping derby combines the precision and elegance of grand prix stadium jumping with the challenges of cross-country on a course that combines both a jumping arena and a cross-country field. The horses and riders negotiate traditional obstacles and also water jumps, ditches, walls and banks.

Preferred seating for Sunday is $250, including an umbrella table with six chairs, snack baskets and preferred parking. Grounds seating overlooking the competition rings for the public are $3 on Sunday only. Dress can be from casual jeans to casual elegance at the umbrella tables.

The event will include vendor booths offering hats, jewelry and equestrian items such as paintings, sculptures, blankets and monogramming. Foxfield's drill team will host a booth with children's activities.

For more information or to purchase preferred seating, call the Foxfield office at (805) 4955515. General tickets for the Sunday derby may be purchased at the gate.
