Dunn and his supporters see the glass half empty So it's another beautiful day at Conejo Creek Park. Here I sit with a cup of coffee and my trusty Thousand Oaks Acorn, enjoying the sounds of nature, only to read the latest incessant whinings of the "Glass is Half Empty" club. Oh my--here we go again: the co-founder of "Save Our Students from Mediocre Math" can't seem to find anything positive about our schools' strong STAR performance results, takes cheap shots at the school board majority and then endorses "Mr. Health Books" for another chaotic term. Wait a minute-that coffee is really giving me a buzz-could it be?-yes!- there is a connection, maybe even a conspiracy: I'm certain it involves the teachers, the superintendent, the board (but not "Mr. Health Books") and all of us misguided citizens. Dan Brown has done it again -he's broken the "Dunn/ Cobasko Code." Everyday Math, with its emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving, and those vile health books have dared to expose our children to the concept of tolerance of those with different lifestyles. There is a connection. Oh my, gosh-what shall we do? Thanks, Mike-thanks, JoAnne-once again you've rescued us from ourselves. Ahhh-that cup of coffee sure was good, but I need a refill- nahhhh-it's still half full. On to the sports section . . . Ron Bauer Thousand Oaks |
