Other local football matchups
Saugus (1-0) at Westlake (1-0)

HE'S GONE-Newbury Park's Jason Andersen races down the sideline to score the Panthers' first touchdown of the season.
Outlook: The Warriors enter this contest well-rested following a bye week. Saugus won its opener 20-6 over Antelope Valley last weekend.

Westlake running back Byron Sells only carried the ball 10 times for 57 yards in the Warriors' season-opening victory over Basic. He's expected to shoulder a bigger load in this matchup.

The Westlake defense was outstanding in its first game of the year, holding Basic scoreless through three quarters of play while forcing three fumbles.

If the unit can produce a similar performance at home, WHS will be in good shape to pick up its second victory of the season. These teams didn't play last year. Newbury Park (1-0)

at Rio Mesa (1-0)

Outlook: Newbury Park signal-caller Colby Cameron was outstanding in the Panthers' Week 1 win against Camarillo. But it was the NPHS defense that stole the show.

Camarillo's offense managed only 10 first downs and 181 yards of total offense against the Black Cat Attack, including a mere three yards on the ground.

Panther running back Brian Koenig rushed for 57 yards and had the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter.

Against Rio Mesa, Newbury Park will face Malachi Lewis, who, at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, is generally considered one of the finest running backs in the county. The Spartans can pass the ball, too.
