Actress Olivia Hussey to be honored for portrayal of Mother Teresa Actress Olivia Hussey will receive the "Mother Teresa Award" at a screening of the biographical film "Mother Teresa." Hussey stars as the internationally renowned nun who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work in India. The award ceremony and screening will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tues., Sept. 19 at Rockwell Science Center, 1049 Camino Dos Rios, Thousand Oaks. Admission is free but seating is limited. Call (805) 557-0273 to reserve a seat. The St. Bernadette Institute of Sacred Art, based in Albuquerque, will bestow the award, with Mother Teresa's niece, Agi Bojaxhiu, participating in the tribute. The Conejo Compassion Coalition, an interfaith aid organization based in Thousand Oaks, will host the evening event. "The late Mother Teresa often said, 'The world is hungry not only for food, but also for beauty,'" said Dan Paulos, director of St. Bernadette Institute. "In that spirit, we recognize those who help beautify the world through the arts, religion and social action," Paulos said. Other recipients of the Mother Teresa Award include Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter and Maya Angelou. "It was a tremendous challenge and honor to play Mother Teresa," the actress said. "The award is humbling, and I am very grateful." |
