Conejo Players to present 'Bugsy Malone Jr.'

Conejo Players Theatre Inc. will present the children's musical "Bugsy Malone Jr." on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 7 and 8. Performances will be at 1 and 4 p.m. each day, with a 7 p.m. show Sat., Oct. 7. The show is suitable for all ages.

A cast of 57 children perform this tongue-in-cheek tribute to the 1920s gangster flick. Bugsy himself guides the audience through the story of Fat Sam who runs one of the most popular clubs in town. In danger of being closed down by his business rival, Dandy Dan, Fat Sam convinces Bugsy to come to his aid.

In the meantime, Fat Sam's girlfriend, Tallulah, gets Bugsy in trouble with his new girlfriend, Blousey. Fizzy, Fat Sam's janitor, tries to get an audition to perform in the club. There are toe-tapping numbers, guns that splurge shaving cream, a custard pie, flapper dresses and a little Charleston.

Tickets are $8 each and can be ordered by calling the box office at (805) 495-3715. The theater is at 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.
