Strong marriage helps Elks leader

STILL A TEAM-

Petty Officer 1st Class Jim Wallace places a ring on

the finger of Grace Moe, above. The year was 1944, three years after Wallace

had joined the Navy. He

enlisted before the

Japanese attack on Pearl

Harbor. The chaplain who gave the wedding ceremony

was E.E. Bosserman, who later became an admiral and

chief of chaplains in the

Navy. Wallace, right, served

as a pharmacist mate. Twenty years later, he would retire as a chief petty officer.

Grace and Jim Wallace,

below, are still married 62

years later and living in Thousand Oaks. Wallace is

a past exalted ruler of the

T.O. Elks Lodge No. 2477 and is chairman of the West

Central Coast district's National Foundation, the scholarship arm of the Elks.
