Temple Beth Haverim to observe Selihot, spiritual preparation for the High Holy Days

At 9 p.m. Sat., Sept. 16, Temple Beth Haverim will prepare spiritually for the Ten Days of Repentance by observing Selihot, when Jews worldwide begin the process of reflection, introspection, and reconciliation with their fellow human beings and God.

This annual service, always scheduled for the Saturday night preceding Rosh Hashana, is an inspirational way to welcome in the High Holy Days. The evening will begin with the Havdalah, a ceremony to conclude the Sabbath day, followed by a wine and cheese reception.

A concert titled "Highlights of the High Holy Days" will be presented by Cantor Kenny Ellis and the temple's adult choir under the direction of Eileen Weiser.

Rabbi Gershon Johnson will deliver an inspirational message introducing the Selihot service, which by tradition concludes after midnight.

Rosh Hashana services are at 8 p.m. Fri., Sept. 22 at the Thou

sand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and at 9 a.m. Sat., Sept. 23 at Temple Beth Haverim.

For more information, call the temple at (818) 991-7111 or visit www.templebethhaverim.org.

The temple is at 29900 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills.
