Learn to square dance

Swing, line dancing, Latin, hip-hop and other dance styles emphasize the individual or dance pairs. Square dancing is all about having a wonderful time with the seven other people in your square and the many other dancers around the room.

The Buckles and Bows Square Dance Club invites all to learn this American tradition. Beginner classes will start on Tues., Sept. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hillcrest Center, 403 W. Hillcrest., Thousand Oaks. The first lesson is free and refreshments are served. After the first session, a $5 donation is requested each week.

Classes are every Tuesday except holidays and continue through mid-May.

Couples and singles are welcome. Single dancers will be paired with a partner.

Beginning square dancing does not require athletic skill or physical coordination, only an alert mental attitude and a desire to have fun. Beginners can learn in a friendly and supportive environment.

All this is done to the music of caller Bill Horst who not only serves as instructor, entertainer and support staff, but makes it fun in the process.

For more information, call class coordinators John and Sybil at (805) 584-2482 or e-mail johnyd@aol.com.
