Rabbis reach out to the community

Chabad Jewish Center of T.O. has welcomed visiting Rabbis Arye Eichler, 24, and Yehuda Glick, 23, who will be here through Aug. 23. They'll be reaching out and acquainting themselves with the Jewish community in T.O. and Newbury Park.

"They will be the ultimate onthe-spot, one-stop Jewish resource center," said Rabbi Chaim Bryski, director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Thousand Oaks.

Eichler and Glick will travel with a mobile Judaica store (Jewish books, tapes, Kippot and videos), religious articles (mezuzot, tefillin, tallit) and information and brochures on all aspects of Jewish life.

Eichler and Glick are part of the Chabad Jewish Peace Corps. More than 275 rabbinical students will also be participating worldwide.

This approach to outreach- called Merkos Shlichus-was created by Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty, in 1945.
