Grants to help senior citizens

To promote senior health and fitness, the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging will be funding health screenings and physical fitness. The agency is accepting proposals for projects that will serve Ventura County residents 60 and older. Priority will be given to projects that target seniors who are economically or socially needy and/or isolated by disability, language, culture or geography. About $80,000 in grants will be funded using federal Older Americans Act monies. The initial contract will be for Oct. 1 through June 30, 2007, with a one-year renewal through June 2008.

Eligible applicants are public agencies, nonprofit groups and for-profit organizations that serve Ventura County. Collaborations are strongly encouraged. Grants aren't available to private citizens.

All funding requests must be submitted via the Request for Proposal application package. The application and request for proposal are available online at http:/ /aaa.countyofventura.org. The documents are also available on diskette at the agency's office, 646 County Square Drive, Ste. 100, Ventura, during regular business hours.
