Pet and people nominations being accepted for ASPCA's Humane Awards The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is inviting the public to nominate extraordinary pets and people for its annual Humane Awards. Animals and humans who have furthered animal welfare or engaged in animal heroism in the U. S. during the past year may be considered for this honor. Winners will be invited to attend the Humane Awards Luncheon in New York City on Thurs., Nov. 2 at the historic Rainbow Room, at which time the awards will be presented. The Humane Awards categories for which nominations are open are as follows: ASPCA Dog of the Year (for the dog who has performed a heroic act in the past year). ASPCA Cat of the Year (for the cat who has performed a heroic act in the past year). ASPCA Horse of the Year (for the horse who has performed a heroic act in the past year). ASPCA Henry Bergh Award (for an individual, foundation or organization that supports the care and welfare of companion animals and who dedicate themselves to making the world a kinder place for animals. Named after the ASPCA's founder, Henry Bergh.). ASPCA Lifetime Achievement (for the person over 50 years of age who has spent many years in the service of animal welfare). ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year (for the member of a municipal police force or other public service officer who made a heroic effort to save an animal in the past year). ASPCA Fireman of the Year (for the member of municipal firefighters who made a heroic effort to save an animal in the past year). "This is an event that takes the time to recognize the important role animals play in our lives and the people that make animal welfare part of their lives everyday," said Ed Sayres, president and CEO, ASPCA. Nominations may be submitted either via the ASPCA website at www.aspca.org/nominate or in writing to: ASPCA Humane Awards Nomination Committee, Special Events Department, 110 5th Ave., New York, NY 10011. Included in the nomination should be the nominee's name, category for which he/she is being nominated, street address, email address, telephone number, and a short (75 words or less) description of why you think they deserve the award. Deadline for entries is Thurs., Aug. 31 at noon (EST). Winners will be chosen by a committee selected by the ASPCA. |
