Camarillo woman chairs Wellness event

Camarillo resident Beate Christina Waggoner will chair The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura's 15th annual Holiday Homes Tour, a self-guided tour that is the organization's largest fundraiser.

Waggoner is seeking volunteers to serve on organizing committees for the tour, which takes place Dec. 2 and 3. Proceeds help fund free programs of support, education and hope for people fighting cancer and for their families.

"The Holiday Homes Tour has always been a favorite annual event in the community, and I am honored to be part of this amazing vehicle for bringing hope to local families," Waggoner said. "There are many opportunities for people to get involved on committees and shape the tour in this milestone year."

Volunteers are invited to serve on the following committees: entertainment, logistics, house management, finance, boutique, raffle and marketing. To volunteer, call Ellyn Wallen at (805) 379-4777.

Waggoner is a sales manager for Hewlett-Packard Corp. and sponsored the Celebration of Courage award on behalf of Hewlett-Packard at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura's 15th anniversary gala in June. She is now working with committee chairs to secure a celebrity chairperson and increase the number of volunteers and sponsors.

"I am a cancer survivor and have cancer in my family, so I wanted to give back to the community," Waggoner said. "I am excited to help raise awareness

about The Wellness Community during the holidays, when people especially want to bring the beauty of the season to others who need help."

The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura is the local chapter of the international, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people affected by cancer. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of their disease.
