Billy Vera and the Beaters to present free concert at Conejo Community Park

The Conejo Recreation and Park District will present a free concert in the park at 5 p.m. Sun., Aug.13 at Conejo Community Park, 1175 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks.

The featured band, Billy Vera & the Beaters, began in early 1979. The band recorded its first album live at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. The album featured the hit single "I Can Take Care of Myself."

Billy Vera & the Beaters' follow-up single "At This Moment" was used in the fall 1985 season and in the first show of the 1986 season of the television show "Family Ties" and propelled the song to No. 1 on national sales charts.

According to a park district spokesperson, "The band plays

blues with depth and elegance and features a great horn section, rocksolid rhythms, and the voice and repertoire of a top American songwriter."

Guests may bring a picnic dinner, but are asked to leave pets at home. Parking is limited to surface streets around the park.
