New West Symphony League will host its major summer fundraiser, "Day at Ascot," at 3 p.m. Sat., Aug. 26 at Ventura Farms, the 2,000-acre estate of David Murdock in the Hidden Valley/Lake Sherwood area of Thousand Oaks.
"New West Symphony League is inviting the community to this truly unique event created years ago by Helene Ross, a tireless League volunteer, who fashioned an elegant garden party along with a horse show and alfresco dining. We are thrilled that Mr. Murdock so graciously agreed to support this most worthwhile event that funds many outreach programs in our community," said co-chairs Elda Bielanski and Judy Linton. Upon arrival guests will be wel
comed with complimentary champagne, followed by a stroll through the lush gardens and then to the orchid conservatory to peruse an array of boutique items. Guests are invited to bid on silent auction items donated by New West Symphony board members, local retailers and restaurants.
A parade of Arabian horses led by Murdock will be followed by an alfresco dinner and a live auction featuring cruises, a trip to Hawaii, jewelry and other offerings.
Ladies are encouraged to wear a hat in the tradition of the centuries-old English Ascot race. Awards will be given to the lady wearing the most beautiful hat as well as to the best-dressed couple. Photos will be taken of guests as mementos.
Monies raised at "Day at Ascot" support many musical programs in the community, including free symphonic adventure concerts at the performing arts centers in Thousand Oaks and Oxnard for more than 10,000 schoolchildren annually.
In addition, a musical instrument van brings hands-on opportunities to more than 85 area schools so youth may see, touch and hear each individual instrument. Numerous other youth programs help to enrich local schools' academic environment and inspire creativity.
Tickets are $200. Call Linton at (805) 493-4663 for additional information.
