T.O. resident named dean Thousand Oaks resident Donald Isaak, PhD, has been named associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Azusa Pacific University, where he is a professor of math and physics. An active researcher, Isaak has published nearly 50 refereed scientific studies and served as a principal investigator on three National Science Foundation grants in addition to his classroom instruction. "A talented teacher, prolific scholar, and experienced administrator, Dr. Isaak is ideally suited for this position," said David Weeks, PhD, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Isaak has been affiliated with UCLA's Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Naval Research Laboratory. He held editorial positions for the American Mineralogist and the Journal of Geophysical Research. He also regularly reviews articles for several other academic journals as well as grant proposals for the National Science Foundation. Isaak received a PhD in geophysics from UCLA, an MSc from Pennsylvania State University, and a BSc in physics from the University of Redlands. He came to Azusa Pacific University in 1992 and has served as the chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Physics since 1996. He also has considerable experience in cross-cultural settings, having taught and worked for Campus Crusade for Christ in West Africa for 10 years, including a fiveyear stint as a physics instructor at the University of Liberia. "I am very honored that I will have an opportunity to serve the university and represent the sciences as the associate dean," said Isaak. "I look forward to all of the challenges that await us, and I am excited to contribute in any way possible." Azusa Pacific is a Christian, evangelical university located 26 miles northeast of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley. |
