Pranksters caught stealing U.S. flags in Westlake

     Jay Perry, the manager of Johnny P's restaurant on Westlake Boulevard, helped catch a group of four people who allegedly stole 800 miniature American flags placed in front of the restaurant for the July Fourth holiday.

     Ventura County District Attorney Gregory Totten announced last Friday that a jury has found Nathan Sessing, 19, of Newbury Park guilty of first degree murder using a knife and a baseball bat in the death of Larry Phifer, 61.

Slowdown continues in home sales
     The total number of Conejo Valley single-family homes sold in May was 132, industry officials report. This compares to 126 sold in April and 222 a year ago, according to Glen Scalise, president of the Conejo Valley Association of Realtors.

Help identify this vegetable
     Something strange is happening out there in the vegetable bed. One of my plants, purchased at Do-it Center and marked "Asian cucumber," is producing something round and yellow/orange. I don't know what it is. I do know it's definitely not the skinny green Asian cucumber in the picture.
