Thousand Oaks Scout awarded a congressional gold medal

Jeff Lyon of Thousand Oaks recently received the Congressional Award Gold Medal, Congress' highest honor for youth service, at a ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Members of Congress, including Senate and House leadership, presented the medals to Lyon and 242 other youth.

In earning his medal, Lyon has served in a variety of voluntary public service activities in his community. He helped restore a 2.9-mile segment of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Trial. He is a Boy Scout, played on two volleyball teams and acted in local theater productions. He has participated in many cross-country expeditions.

The Congressional Award Foundation encouraged participants to be well-rounded by setting goals in personal development, physical fitness and cultural exploration.
