Club gives $8,100 in scholarships

The Scholarship Committee of the Westlake Women's Club, chaired by Marge Ceran, recently awarded $8,100 in scholarships to graduating seniors from local high schools.

Nabeel Hameed of Westlake High School received the Westlake Women's Club Karen Rufener Scholarship. Hameed is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rashid Hameed of Westlake Village and ranks at the top of a graduating class of 443 students. He has been active in community and school activities and plans to eventually become a doctor.

Additional scholarships went to the following students: Jenna

Oestreicher from Agoura High School, Jennifer Pan from Oak Park High School, Andrew Knauer from Newbury Park High School, Gwendolyn Derk from Thousand Oaks High School, Ericka Baer from Westlake High School and Shawne Edwards from Indian Hills High School.

Members of the Westlake Women's Club presented the scholarships to the recipients during the award ceremonies at the various schools. Presenters were Berniece Bennett, Karen Bradley, Cate Brown, Ruth Diehl, Karen Oxrider, Doris Rufener and Claudia Salfen.
