Maritime Museum hosts festival

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is pleased to host the Semana Nautica Sports Festival exhibition of memorabilia from the annual event at the museum through Sept. 4 (Labor Day).The festival, set to celebrate its 69th anniversary, hosts a series of athletic events in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria and Goleta.

The event kicks off on Fri., June 30 and continues through July 23.A number of events are held-from competitive swimming to golf-designed for a variety of age groups and skill levels.

Additionally, the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is hosting Semana Nautica's annual Krazy Kardboard Kayak Race. Teams of four are invited to challenge friends and fellow community members to a test of wits and design capabilities as each team attempts to create a functioning cardboard kayak, using only cardboard, tape and a marker (all included in the entry fee of $25).

After an hour of vessel design at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, competitors will parade over to the Yacht Club shoreline to race their kayaks, finding out whose design can hold up under pressure and paddling.
