Soroptimists help worthy causes Soroptimist International of the Conejo recently held its annual Service Awards Program meeting to present monetary awards ranging from $250 to $1,000 to nine community nonprofit organizations. The meeting was at Marie Callender's restaurant in Thousand Oaks. The award recipients are The Children's Burn Foundation, Community Conscience, Conejo Youth Employment Services, Hospice of the Conejo, Interface Family Services, Many Mansions, RAIN Project Transitional Living Center, Senior Concerns and the Women's Resource Center. The Service Committee cochairs are Linda Sorensen and Jacque Turner. The mission statement of Soroptimist International emphasizes "improving the lives of women and girls in the local community and throughout the world." The local club held fundraising events during the past year to provide the awards and give back to the community through these organizations.
