Travel team features serious hoops talent The Baseline to Baseline Gold club basketball team recently won the 2006 May Hoops Rule Tournament in Costa Mesa. The Gold completed the tournament with a 4-0 record. In the championship game, the Gold opened up a first-half lead of 22-3, en route to a 7240 victory. Outstanding offensive performances were turned in by Andrew Miller (16 points) and Bobby Macias (12 points). Every player on the Gold's roster scored during the game. Coach Matt Micek said he was pleased with his team's effort. "This is a deep team which is better conditioned than most others," Micek said. "We have been able to wear opponents down in the second half." Micek said the team represented the area well. "Not all college prospects live in Los Angeles," he said. "I have high expectations for us in the larger, more competitive tournaments this summer." The Gold team is composed of all-star high school players from the East Ventura County and west Los Angeles County areas. They practice at Oak Park and Moorpark high schools. Roster players include Bobby Macias (Thousand Oaks), Allen Scott and Mauro Ormedilla (Westlake), Kareem Maddox and Nick Saliano (Oak Park), Mike Tobin and Gordon Galloway (Camarillo), Andrew Miller (Chaminade), Andrew Nulman (Crespi), Shane Foster (Calabasas) and Brandon Simon and Mike Meza (Simi Valley). Macias was an All-CIF selection to the Division I-A first team. Maddox was named second team All-CIF for Division III-A. Scott was voted by the coaches as an All-County player for the 2005-06 season. This was the second consecutive tournament championship for the Gold. On April 2223, the team won the RYBC Spring Invitational in Norwalk/ La Mirada with a record of 4-0. The Baseline to Baseline club is managed and coached by Matt Micek. Co-director Andrew Borg (Oak Park) and Jeff Perrault (Ventura College) coach other Baseline to Baseline teams. |
