In supervisorial race, the positive candidate won Citizens of Thousand Oaks look around. Thanks to most of you who voted, Linda Parks will continue as supervisor for the 2nd District of Ventura County. You can count on a strong voice to protect our beautiful city from rampant sprawl that has ruined so many cities in California. She will ensure the efficient use of our tax dollars and work to improve schools, police and fire protection, and transportation. Her record proves that. Clearly the power brokers in this city and the county are not happy to have any opposition to their agenda of rampant growth at the expense of the quality of life for most of us. I'm sure Parks' opponent in the election is a great soccer dad, but I find it a little curious that he contests Parks' candidacy for different political offices much as a political stalker. Joe Gibson ran unsuccessfully against Parks in a city council election. If the current council majority thinks so highly of Gibson, why wasn't he appointed to the recent vacancy? Is this a personal grudge by Gibson or perhaps the controlling council members are promoting his name recognition with the goal of getting him on the city council? We will see. The vote for Parks was substantial and certainly would have been greater without city orchestrated attempts to discredit her record. For me the worst offense was to include Joe Gibson in a political flier, mailed to registered Democrats, which portrayed him as a Democratic Party candidate. The fine print in the flier made it clear that a candidate only had to pay for the favor and there was no connection to the party. It would be a real stretch to believe that the moneyed backers of Gibson operated on Democratic Party principals in pursuit of a nonpartisan political office. It is very refreshing when a clearly honest, hard-working candidate wins. It seems so rare in politics. It takes a concerted grass roots effort to overcome power and moneyed interests. Congratulations Linda Parks and your dedicated supporters. Burt Elliott Thousand Oaks |
