Walk-A-Thon to benefit kids

Lutheran Social Services will sponsor the second annual It's All About the Kids Walk-A-Thon from 9 to 11 a.m. Sat., June 24 at the track at Thousand Oaks High School, 2323 N. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.

Participants are encouraged to ask at least five friends to each sponsor $20 for the walk. The two individuals who raise the most pledges will each receive a new bicycle.

Proceeds from the walk will help support programs that provide direct service to the children of the community.

One-third of the clients who receive services and support from Lutheran Social Services are children who come from working poor families who are struggling to make ends meet. Some of these families must deal with hunger, homelessness and illness without medical insurance.

Lutheran Social Services' vision is that all individuals have the opportunity to live and work in a community in safety, with dignity and with hope.

For more information about the Walk-A-Thon or the programs at Lutheran Social Services, call (805) 497-6207 or e-mail cpoynter@lsssc.org.
