TOHS junior writes winning essay on ethics

Bethany Reed, an 11th-grade student at Thousand Oaks High School, was recently honored in a national essay competition offered by Foundations for Life, a program directed by the Josephson Institute of Ethics.

Reed was awarded a summa cum laude certificate after scoring in the top 10 percent of entries in her grade across the nation. She's the opinion editor of the Thousand Oaks High School paper, The Lancer.

The competition inspires students to reflect on enduring truths that will guide them in making ethical and effective choices in their life. Entrants chose their subject from a list of maxims and write a personally meaningful essay based on their life experience and understanding of character.
