Acclaimed composer will conduct master class Internationally-acclaimed composer Bright Sheng will conduct a master class at 11 a.m. Sat., May 20 in the Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The New West Symphony's principal flute Paul Fried and principal cello Mark Tanner will join Sheng for the class. Admission is free. Sheng will be conducting the world premiere of his "Wild Swan, Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra" with the New West Symphony on Fri. and Sat., May 19 and 20. He will introduce and offer interpretive details on two of his works. Fried will perform "Three Etudes" and Tanner will play "Seven Tunes Heard in China."
