Know your flag protoco May is National Military Appreciation Month, and United Spinal Association, a national veteran's service organization, reminds Americans that they can honor the members of our armed forces this month and every month by flying the American flag. To do so properly, the organization has produced a pamphlet, "How to Display Our Flag." Single copies of this pamphlet are available free of charge by calling (800) 444-0120. "United Spinal encourages Americans to show support yearround for our troops by displaying our flag appropriately," said executive director and veteran Gerard Kelly. "When one views the flag, one thinks of liberty, freedom and pride. The flag is how America signs her name." The booklet explains the proper etiquette for showing the American flag and contains a list of days when the flag is traditionally displayed, such as Independence Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This informative pamphlet also provides instruction on how the flag should be displayed on a variety of specific occasions such as parades or public functions. The United Spinal Association was founded in 1946 by returning World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries who joined together and dedicated themselves to building meaningful and productive lives for all individuals with disabilities. Today, the national veteran's service and disability rights organization continues to empower not just veterans but all Americans with spinal cord injury or disorders through their services and programs. |
