Track and field athletes shine at Marmonte League Championships There were several standout performances by local track and field athletes during the Marmonte League Championships last Friday afternoon at Moorpark High. The Thousand Oaks duo of Sarah Speer (12.56) and Calyx Schentrup (12.72) finished first and second, respectively, in the girls' 100 race. Teammate AlixAnn Kitka posted a secondplace finish in the 200 (26.28). Lancer distance runner Alie Lopez put up an impressive 2:20.34 in the 800, earning second-place honors behind Simi Valley's Anna Sperry (2:15.42). Lopez also finished third in the 1,600 (5:14.40). Newbury Park standout Amanda Lee won titles in the 100 (15.15) and 300 hurdles (46.09). Mhia Vickers of Westlake posted a pair of second-place finishes in the same events. Vickers' times were 15.71 and 47.29, respectively. Lee also won the high jump competition with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches, and finished in second place in the long jump (16 feet, 6 inches). Thousand Oaks' Schentrup captured the long jump championship with a score of 16 feet, 11 inches. Her teammate, Sam Rivera (16 feet, 4 inches), was third. Rivera also finished in second place in the triple jump (33 feet, 6 inches). On the boys' side, T.O.'s Taylor Malm posted a third-place finish in the 100 with a time of 11.2 seconds. Moorpark's Darrell Scott won the 100 (10.77) and 200 (22.08). Westlake's Byron Sells finished third in the 200 (22.82). Warrior distance runner Cory Primm placed second in the 800 (2:00.02) and third in the 1,600 (4:24.29). Thousand Oaks' Dan Scharf captured the 300 hurdles title with a time of 39.01. Scharf also earned second-place honors in the 110 hurdles (14.93). Newbury Park's Patrick Alami won the high-jump competition with 6 foot, 6 inch effort. Brandon Dutton and Jevon Jones of Thousand Oaks both placed in the shot put. Dutton's throw of 48 feet, 4 inches was good for second place. Jones' 43 foot, 1 inch effort garnered a third-place finish. - Stephen Dorman |
