Rabbi lectures on evolving Judaism Rabbi Sherwin Wine will present a lecture, "Judaism and the Global World: The Transformation of the Jewish People," at 2 p.m. Sun., May 21 at the New Jewish Community Center at Milken, 22622 Vanowen St., West Hills. Admission is free. His talk will focus on how Judaism fits into today's world of constant change. In 2003 Wine was named "Humanist of the Year." In 1963, he founded humanistic Judaism and the Birmingham Temple in Detroit, Mich. Humanistic Jews believe that the historical and cultural aspects of Judaism are evidence of the worth of human power and human responsibility. The rabbi is the author of a number of books on humanistic Judaism and is currently the dean of the International Institute of Secular Humanistic Judaism in North America.
