Seniors to celebrate life The Celebration of Life Senior Festival will be presented from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., May 20 at Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. It will showcase some of the classes, hobbies and arts that are available at the center or within the community. Despite the name, the festival "is open to all ages seeking a day of fun and information regarding life's choices," according to Andrea Koval of the center. Entertainment will be provided by mariachi and folk dancers from Oxnard, followed by Dr. Discovery discussing the space shuttle. The Conejo Valley Cloggers will then show off their fancy footwork, and the organization Wildlife on Wheels will be on hand to introduce some furry friends to guests. A pet adoption area will also be on site for those looking to take home a new pet. Those bidding at the event's silent auction will help support the center as well as the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program that is headquartered there. Lunch is available through presale tickets: $3 for those age 50 and up and $5 for those under age 50. Vendor booths from 30 to 40 nonprofit agencies and seniorserving businesses will provide a wide range of information on many topics, including health, beauty, finances, art, long-term care, insurance and more. For more information, call (805) 381-2744. |
