The location: Westbound Lindero Canyon Road at the Russell Ranch Road/Via Colinas intersection

The problem: The red light seems to take too long.

Possible solutions: The city of Westlake Village should allow the light to stay green longer.

Immediate action: The problem was solved recently, according to Westlake Village City Engineer John Knipe.

"Due to the construction on the other side of the street, the signal had been on what we call 'recall,'" Knipe said. "In other words, the signal just cycles from one phase of operation to the next phase, regardless of whether or not there are cars there. Now that the construction is over with, we've turned the signal back on to normal operation, so there shouldn't be a problem now."

According to Knipe, the construction actually required that certain aspects of the intersection's operation be shut down, therefore only allowing "recall." The equipment, which monitors the number of vehicles at a red light, is back in operation and will give a green light to the lanes with the most vehicles.
