Oak adoptions can be made on Arbor Day If you're looking for a unique gift idea for Easter, Mother's Day, or Father's Day, you might want consider "adopting" an oak tree. The city of Thousand Oaks "Adopt an Oak" program allows you to adopt one of the city's trees in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one, co-worker, or friend. The oak is the official National Tree and Thousand Oaks has three species of oak: valley oak, coast live oak, and scrub oak. The city offers the opportunity to "Adopt an Oak" as an innovative way to raise funds to enhance funding for Open Space maintenance, and development of public recreational facilities. The city offers a choice of donation levels of $250, $500, $1,000 and $10,000 for one of the city's heritage oaks. "This program is a wonderful way to help fund maintenance of our 15,000 plus acres of open space. Many residents have taken advantage of the program to honor people on special anniversaries, retirements, or for holidays. It's the perfect gift for someone who has everything else-a gift that will last and bless future generations," said Mayor Dennis Gillette. For more information, call Gay Mosser at (805) 449-2107.
