Spring is full of senior activities

A variety of activities is planned at Goebel Senior Adult Center this spring. Among the highlights are the following events.

The center is at 1385 E. Janss Road (adjacent to the Thousand Oaks Library), Thousand Oaks.

From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sat., April 22 the center will host "Youth Stamp Day," a free event open to all ages that is presented in observance of Earth Day. Attendees can learn how to "travel around the world" through stamp collecting. The event will feature activities, prizes, games, exhibits, refreshments and free giveaways including beginners' stamp collecting kits.

From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sat., April 29, a spring dance open to adults of all ages will be presented featuring light refreshments and music by the Sophisticats. Evening attire is suggested. Advance tickets at $8 per person are available at Goebel Center; otherwise admission is $10 at the door.

In observance of Conejo Valley Days, Goebel Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wed. and Thurs., May 3 and 4.

National Park Service Ranger Mike Malone, who is also a film researcher/historian, will discuss "Beautiful Mountains in Your

Backyard" at 2 p.m. on Mon., May 8. He will help attendees identify recreational opportunities "right here in your backyard" plus discuss the Park Link Shuttle service and volunteer opportunities available at National Park Service sites within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Admission is free but reservations are requested.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 20, the center will host a "Senior Festival." There will be more than 50 booths, guest speakers, entertainment, a silent auction and lunch. Admission is free; lunch is available for adults ages 50 and up for $3 (pre-sale ticket purchase only). Lunch cost for adults under age 50 is $5.
