Cal Lutheran's Stroot wins DIII West Region Player of the Year award

California Lutheran University senior Lauren Stroot was named the NCAA Division III West Region Player of the Year by D3Hoops.com.

The Camarillo High School graduate helped lead the Regal basketball team to the regional playoffs earlier this year.

A native of Camarillo, Stroot led the Regals in scoring in 20 of 26 games in the 2005-2006 season, setting a new CLU career record of 1,729 points.

She accounted for 30 of the Regals' 62 points in their loss against the University of Puget Sound in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

In the first year that D3Hoops.com has named regional Players of the Year, Stroot also is the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) athlete to be named to the website's all-region first team.

Stroot's also among 40 finalists for 10 spots on the Kodak/WBCA All-American team for 2006.
