Linda Parks deserves to be reelected

Despite some negative comments fromJoe Gibson, who will be running against Linda Parks in the next election for Ventura county supervisor, Linda Parks has met the expectations of her voters and hopes to accomplish that and more in her reelection to office.

He commentedthat she was against widening roads as a method of easing traffic congestion, yet she jumped on the band wagon when the state came up with money for these projects.

She does have her communication lines open and when funds from the state becameavailable for projects for our county, you bet that she will willingly receive and utilize them when offered.

Despite this, she realizes that one can only widen roads so much. The main solutionis to have smart growth, smart planning ofcities, and find ways of getting people out of their individual carsto utilize alternate transportation systems.

Certainly, currentgas prices can encourage people to want to use public transportation. The VCTC needs to step up to the plate and develop alternatetransportation systems.

Public transportationneeds to be made more accessible and time efficient so that people will use it.

If Ahmanson Ranch had been built as it had been planned, thetraffic along the Ventura freeway would have gone from bad to disastrous. Where was Joe Gibson at that time? Linda Parks was at the forefront to see to it that such a huge project was not given the go ahead.

As an urban planner, Linda Parks understands the needs of our community. She knows thatdevelopers need to be held to the agreements that they make with government in order for the projects to function smoothly and not add to traffic congestion, overcrowd ourschools, cause pollution of our air and resources or create other adverse impacts. She wants to help businesses to thrive and have ample employment opportunities available for our community.

She is always concerned with the safety of our community andworks toward the reduction of crime. She is a strong believer in fiscal responsibility and for government to work within its means. Shehelps those who request assistance in accessing governmentagencies when people are met with obstacles. She supports programs in our community that offer services for our youth, adults, the elderly, thefrail, the needy and thehandicapped. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors works well together to meet the needs of the communities that they represent.

LindaParks is an effective member of this team. We appreciate her service to our community and look forward to having her reelected. Sharon Miret Newbury Park
