Development takes more trees I live in Newbury Park, off Old Conejo Road. I’m sure other commuters driving down Old Conejo Road have seen all the pepper trees being cut down to make way for the new medical and office facility. First I’d like to say that Thousand Oaks had no right allowing this without openly informing the residents that all the trees would be cut down. We were actively misled through a campaign of resident-friendly letters that one tree would be removed. It makes no sense to cut pepper trees on a road that leads to Pepper Tree Park. The other businesses and prior tenants for this property were able to preserve these old trees. Why is this tenant any different? The statement from code compliance that the developer can replace 50year-old tress with “large trees” is not acceptable. Secondly, to the developer who obviously could care less about our natural resources, the pepper trees and all the animals that have lived in those trees for years, you should be prepared for a fight from these residents. We have been deceived and will fight this all the way. It’s ridiculous that Thousand Oaks does not include our community for consideration because we are unincorporated, but has no problem cutting down the trees that have lined our streets for years. Shame on the Thousand Oaks City Council. I expected more from an active city council that promoted conservation. All of us are affected when greed over comes preservation of our beautiful community.
