Letter writer must be a lousy driver Regarding the letter about too much law enforcement, it appears Ms. King should be more concerned with her driving habits than the number of police officers and deputies trying to make the streets of Los Angeles and Ventura counties safe. Ms. King complains her automobile insurance rates are too high and she can no longer donate time to law enforcement causes due to the time she spends in court fighting tickets she receives for moving violations. Rather she prefers to be given innumerable warnings for her apparently poor driving maneuvers as she careens through Oak Park and the surrounding cities. Most insurance companies do not raise rates for a single violation, so I assume it is fair for me to surmise Ms. King has had more than one moving violation. I would not want to live in a society that allows scoff laws to avoid justice by threatening to withhold funds from public charities in order to get a free ride when they violate the law. Most citizens are happy for and often request a larger police presence in the streets surrounding their homes. It is usually those who knowingly violate the laws of the land that are “paranoid” when they see our brave law enforcement officers in their community. Philip Brooks Thousand Oaks |
