Learning the ropes a breeze for area gymnasts
TAKING HOME THE GOLD—Members of the Victory Gymnastics Academy of Newbury Park show off the medals they won at a recent competition in Aliso Viejo. The boys’ gymnastics team from Victory Gymnastics Academy recently competed in its first gymnastics meet, taking home an assortment of medals.
Victory Gymnastics Academy is a new, state-of-the-art facility located in Newbury Park.
Seventeen boys, ages 6 to 15 years old, competed against more than 50 others at the Judges’ Cup in Aliso Viejo. The meet was a warm-up prior to last
Saturday’s Southern California Men’s Gymnastics Association’s first preliminary competition, held at Cali Gymnastics in Simi Valley.
The team competes under the direction of Ray Jiang, who, in his 30-year coaching career, has trained state and regional champions for both girls’ and boys’ teams. Tristian Rodriguez is also a team coach. “Our team did fantastic in its
first-ever meet,” Jiang said. “The boys participated in all six men’s events including floor exercises, rings and vault. We’re very proud of their showing.”
The boys are in levels 4 through 10 in gymnastic ranking.
The Victory gymnasts will also participate in meets in Bakersfield, Las Vegas, Oklahoma and Hawaii.
“Our team has been working very hard over the summer and
fall. Team members are ready to compete with the best in the country,” Jiang said.
