Wild ride for Newbury Park truck driver at Blythe race
JW RACING/Special to The Acorn NEED FOR SPEED-Jeff Williams, a Newbury Park resident, and his No. 28 JW Racing truck recently won the West Coast Pro Truck touring series championship at the I-10 Speedway in Blythe. Jeff Williams and his pit crew cruised to a win at I-10 Speedway in Blythe. It was the first championship for the Newbury Park-based JW Racing team in the West Coast Pro Truck touring series.
Williams finished in the top 5 in every race this season with many different pole positions. He had multiple trophy dash victories and two main event wins.
"Being a consistent driver and finishing strong every race is better than only a few highlights," Williams said.
Williams started the main event in the second position and the 10 truck of Rick Wall chopped down on Williams 28 truck coming out of turn four on the first lap as the caution was thrown.
The 28 team was unaware the hit was hard enough to sheer the front hood pins.
On the restart, Williams' hood flew up and covered the windshield coming out of turn two. Without incident, he came to a stop. Williams was met in the pits where a crew member, Camren Beattie, ripped off the hood.
The hoodless 28 truck returned to the track only to start at the tail end once again. By lap 12, Williams moved up to third place when Wall's engine blew up, bringing out the caution once again and placing the 28 truck in second place.
Williams passed the 78 truck for the lead on the next green flag lap and proceeded to stretch his lead.
Williams' sponsors include Spectre Performance, Rare Parts, CRC Transmission, West Coast Converter, Day Motor Sport and Ringers Gloves.
