T.O. resident gets American Heart Association award

Dr. Jeffrey Saver Dr. Jeffrey Saver Thousand Oaks resident Dr. Jeffrey L. Saver, professor of neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and director of the UCLA Stroke Center, received the American Heart Association Stroke Council Award on Nov. 13 at the AHA Scientific Sessions Conference in Chicago.

The award recognizes those who actively work to integrate stroke and heart disease in clinical care, education or research. Individuals committed to promoting wider recognition of stroke in the cardiovascular community and of heart disease in the stroke community are honored for their efforts.

Saver's research focuses on the neuroimaging, clinical trial design, neurocognitive consequences of stroke, and prevention, diagnosis and treatment of stroke.

He has written or co-written more than 175 research articles.

Saver is a fellow of the Stroke Council of the AHA, current chair of the AHA Stroke Council's Stroke Scientific Statement Oversight Committee, a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, a member of the American Neurological Association and a professional member of the National Stroke Association.

Saver received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1981. He is a graduate of the Harvard-Longwood Neurology Training Program, the University of Iowa fellowship program in behavior neurology and cognitive neuroscience, and the Brown University fellowship program in vascular neurology.
